Go to the Hungry Ones

“Hey, why am I here, and what am I doing?” When I come upon a situation that I’m not comfortable with, those twoquestions often run through my mind. And, that’sprobably the onlyplace to go when people ask, “What the cob is this CrossWind thing all about? The “why” and the “what”ofits existence is super important, dude- maybe, the most salient of any of the questions about CrossWind. Yeah, everybody wants to know about those crazy question marks and “hell say what!!! wheels”; but it’s the “whys” and the “whats” that demand attention!

Well, let me say at the front end that we are NOT here because of the cool machines (though we all do love bikesóespecially our own!) nor because of the motorcycle culture (though Daytona and Sturgis and Hollister and Thunder Beach do have their attractiveness!) nor even because of the call to ministry (though we are grateful that our Lord has put a heartfelt desire in each of us to reach bikers for Christ). Rather, we are CrossWind BECAUSE OF WHO CHRIST IS AND WHAT HE HAS DONE!!!

I Timothy 1:15 isone of our charterverses: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.” That is why we exist. We are here to bring Christ to the nationsóspecifically the bikers who are often known as ìnations unto themselves.” Jesus goes on to address this calling in His Great Commission of Matthew 28:19-20. There, He instructs His listeners to ìmake disciplesî while they are going. It is instructive to note that the ìgoingî is by implication (in the original language, the word is a participle)óthat is, as Christians, we are expected to go. What is commanded of us is that we are to ìmake disciples.î The imperative, therefore, is to bring others: one, to a personal relationship with the Savior so that there is a conspicuous presence of Christ within that person’s life; two, to be under the total authority of Christ acknowledging that he is the personal property of the Savior filled with His Holy Spirit; three, to bear (not produce) the fruit of Christ as seen in His love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control being evident in his life; and, four, to prepare to suffer in the likeness of Christ (for as Paul tells us in Philippians 3:10, to truly know Christ is to know His sufferings).

CrossWind exists for the glory of God and the welfare of others. We have been called into a world that few want to go, butwe go in the Name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, and in the power of the Holy Spirit armed with the Holy Bible. That, in a nutshell is both the why and the what.
