He’s Alive

In 2004, the National Coalition of Motorcyclists (NCOM) held its annual convention in Oklahoma City. I sensed God’s call to attend this meeting of hundreds of biker club members. NCOM exists to improve the motorcyclist image, support legislation for the betterment of motorcycling, and protect biker rights in the court system. My presence at NCOM was, however, to share Jesus Christ with the patchholders.

Throughout the convention, Christ’s love was demonstrated in extraordinary ways–a PHer and his old lady prayed discreetly behind a tree, another put a Biker’s Bible in his vest along with a couple of Gospel tracts, scores of PHer’s conversed with the Christian bikers, and thousands of tracts and flyers were handed out. Indeed, as the convention drew to a close, there developed a spirit of unity not only among the MC’s but also between the PHer’s and theMM’s who had spent their days and nights ministering in Jesus’ name.

As the MC’s began pulling out on Sunday afternoon, PHer Len 1%er (not ID’d out of respect for him and his club) approached one ofus who was taking down the ministry tent. They spoke for a while standing next to Steve’s pick-up truck, and then PHer Len 1%er said, “You know, you guys got it all wrong.” Steve asked, “What do you mean?” Then PHer Len 1%er unloaded, “Well, you are the only ones who have the truth. I mean your Guy was raised from the dead, and all those other religions’ guys are just so much meat for the worms. Hey man, you ought to be wearing a rock instead of a cross!”

A 1%er from Oklahoma had just reminded usof a great and awesome truthóa truth that was communicated to me that Sunday night and which has consequently been passed on to numerous others in the months and years since.

And, it wasn’t long afterwards (a couple of days, in fact) that I drilled a hole through a rock and chained it to my vest (now my jacket). To this day, it is a powerful illustration of PHer Len 1%er’s testimony – JESUS CHRIST IS ALIVE!!!

. . .this Jesus. . .was betrayed by men. . .and handed over to you. And you nailed him to a cross and killed him. But God untied the death ropes and raised him up [as] death was no match for him. . . God raised Jesus to life. (Acts 2:23-24; 32)

You know, I still wear my crosses; but there’s that rock, too. Hey man, how about you getting one and chaining it to your vest or jacket?
