He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother

“. . .but there is a friend who stickes closer than a brother.”  (Proverbs 18:24b)

In the biker world, a greater truth cannot be found than what that lil’ ol’ patch — F F — stands for; you know, “- – FOREVER, FOREVER – -!” Whatever words you want to put before and after, the reality is that the brotherhood requires a total commitment to the club and its members. Too many just don’t understand what we’re talkin’ about; they use the term “brother” like it don’t mean nothin’!

It’s special, though, ’cause it’s the strongest bond possible – it’s an attitude, a sense of dedication, a loyalty, and a trust all roll’d into one. It’s lives that are fused in a way that makes its members flesh and blood – they’re not like family, they are family! MCers are their brother’s keepers; as taught from day one, they support their fellows any way they can be it sellin’ their ride to support him, quittin’ their job to help him, even defendin’ his life with their own if necessary. The LEO’s can threaten all they want, but these guys ain’t givin’ up a brother! No way, man! Don’t jack with ‘em ’cause you’re liable to get messed up!

You know, there’s a real good reason why the brotherhood is so strong; and that’s ’cause it’s got an unbelievable source behind it. I mean it, man! That source is the Bible; yeah, the Bible! There’s a story in Genesis about a guy called Abraham, and in that story our kind of brotherhood is introduced. You see, God made this deal, or covenant as the Bible calls it, with Abraham; and in this covenant God says that He will give to Abraham all the blessings of life as well as defend him to the end! And, then, God swore TWICE WITH BLOOD to keep it óonce with the severed bodies of animals and a second time with the bloodied body of His own Son, Jesus Christ!

That’s some oath, man! I mean, c’mon, there ain’t no prospectin’ or strikin’ that required that! Hey, know any prospects that have endured things from the laughable (how ’bout ridin’ five hundred miles to get a six pack for a brother – and he’d better bring back the receipt!) to the really heavy? The issue is respect – you gotta get respect; and to do that, the brothers have to be able to count on you no matter how extreme it gets! But have any of us been willing to shed our own blood – that is, give up our own lives – to be a part of the brotherhood? Well, that’s what God did – God in the flesh, Jesus Christ, gave His own life to seal His covenant forever.

How ’bout that for respect? And the really cool thing is that Jesus offers to you and me brotherhood with Himself. You might’ve heard this before: For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”  That means that God is watching your back, man – He sold out everything to help you! His attitude, His loyalty, His trustworthiness, and His dedication to you is rock solid! The Bible goes so far as to say that Jesus is one “who is closer than a brother”!

Hey, I’ve got a better slogan than the one titled above; it’s C F F C – that’s “Christ Forever, Forever Christ”. And it’s the patch that I now wear with my colors. It’s a brotherhood that insures whatever is best for me not only 24/7/365 but forever. It’s great, man, to be a brother of the Son. I’d love it if you’d prospect with Jesus, too. Take some time and think it over.
